Bauer’s release of the Vertexx Edge holder on the 1S skate was one of the biggest changes in goalie skate design in over 30 years. By eliminating the cowling Bauer created a skate that was much lighter that was able to get much lower to the ice and decrease the angle of attack. Some goalies however were still left wanting with the LS3 steel that came in them originally. The LS5 G is the answer for those goalies that were looking for a bit more height as well as a better quality blade overall. The LS5 G is the same height as the very popular LS3 G+ which allowed for an even increased angle of attack over the traditional 3G. The big feature on the LS5 G however is the Carbon Coating that the runner has. The Carbon Coating does a whole bundle of things. First and foremost it hardens the steel allowing for increased edge longevity. The coating as well decreases the coefficient of friction of the blade on the ice which produces a smoother faster glide with the LS5 G goalie steel runner. The LS5 G is the highest level of steel that Bauer offers for their Vertexx Edge G holder and top end goalies should definitely think of sharpening their game with them.
