Most would think that the design and construction of the original Draco should have taken several years. Entrepreneur Mike Patey – whose extraordinary drive and “back to work” ethic have inspired thousands of people – did it in just over five months. Taking a Wilga 2000 as his base Mike replaced the Lycoming O-540 piston engine with a Pratt Whitney PT6A-28 turboprop with about twice the power and half the weight. Many more modifications followed until Mike was able to unveil his “ultimate bushplane” in the end. The Draco made it anywhere a Carbon Cub could land but had twice the climb performance could reach up to 28000 feet and could do so at a cruise speed of 180mph fully loaded. The changes from the original Wilga were so extensive that the FAA approved Mike’s aircraft as an “Experimental Exhibition.” The E-flite DRACO 2.0m is as unique and impressive as its prototype. Packed with functional features it is one of the most advanced and detailed E-flite flight models ever built.
