The Twilight I Alt-Azimuth Mount with Tripod from Explore Scientific is designed to hold a small- to medium-sized refractor or a lightweight Newtonian up to 15 pounds. It extends from 38.5 to 55.5″ high weighs 16.7 pounds and folds down to 42″ for transport. The mount is made of powder-coated aluminum with worm gears on both axes and a Vixen-style dovetail saddle. The head can be tilted back-to-front to a 45 angle and can also be set to point straight up for viewing at the zenith. Large knobs on the vertical and horizontal slow-motion control cables make adjustments easy even with gloves on. An included wrench for adjusting the mount is easily stored in the fork arm and held in place with a magnet. The tripod is chrome-plated steel has a 42″ footprint and has individually adjustable legs that are secured via thumbscrews. For further strength and vibration reduction a spreader bar locks against the inside of the legs.
