Perhaps you noticed a new aero lid atop some of the riders on Team Astana and Direct Energie at this past year’s Tour. Limar developed the helmet in conjunction with Team Astana and during its own testing at a wind tunnel in Magny-Cours France it was the fastest helmet of the group at speeds of 40 km/h and the drag numbers were very close to that of its TT specific helmet the Air King. Therefore the helmet is critical in reducing the frontal area and thus creating a more aero profile. And because cycling is so dynamic Limar performed three-dimensional simulations using CFD software while creating the shape of the Air Speed’s shell to better replicate the cyclist’s head position over the course of the ride rather than one static position all without neglecting the need for ventilation and a low weight. That cooling comes courtesy of 7 vents in the front and 5 vents in the rear joined by 3 longitudinal channels running the length of the helmet. This allows cool air to rush over the head keeping you cooler while hotter air easily exhausts. Keeping the helmet secure is Limar’s Air Fit System offering both vertical and horizontal adjustments for quick and easy fitting. Inside the soft washable and anti-bacterial padding soaks up sweat and prevents any pressure points from interfering with your ride.
