Nitric acid HNO3 is a highly corrosive and strongly oxidizing inorganic acid commonly used in a variety of industrial and laboratory applications. Nitric acid 70% is a solution of nitric acid in water with a concentration of 70% nitric acid and 30% water. This product is commonly referred to as concentrated nitric acid. Nitric acid is used for the production of fertilizers nitration of organic compounds and for the purification of metals such as gold and platinum. In the production of fertilizers nitric acid is used to produce ammonium nitrate which is a key ingredient in many fertilizers. In the nitration of organic compounds nitric acid is used to introduce the nitro group -NO2 into an organic molecule producing a nitro compound.
